we had visitors!
We had our first visitors last Friday! Simon (Rebecca's friend from her ANZAC Tour) & Pete (Si's friend) came over for the weekend to go see the Australia vs Ireland Compromise Rules game on Sunday. They were also our guinneapigs for our blow up bed as well hehe, apparently its too cold and we need more blankets. I just think these Aussies need to harden up :-D
So after a fry-up (becoming a standard breakfast now) on Saturday, we took off to go chill in the near by St. Stephens Green shopping mall but some how ended up in pub again, hmm... seems like a recurring event in Dublin. They went on to join up with their group of other Aussie Fanatics in the afternoon so Rebecca & I being absolutely tired and sick (well I was, and she is now too) spent the night watching DVDs at home on my laptop.
Came Sunday, after a bit of grocery shopping, we went up to the Nix's for dindins and then onto support John's ALL DUBLIN Hurling Final. As the numbers were too great to fit in the car, I scored a ride with Dee on her 'Hair dryer' motorbike :-) It was way cool! efficient little machines they are! It was a bit cold and the helmet was not ear-friendly for sure - phaaa! I thought my ears where stuck taking the helmet off! - nevertheless, still an experience. Anyway, so John's hurling final. Its the ALL DUBLIN final in the Intermediate grade. It was a strategic play I reckon, after trailing only 1~2 points behind for most the game, the Naomh Barrog team scored the crucial goal in the final minutes and had the crowd screaming in excitement. The final score was... ah... can't remember, but THEY WON!!! yay!!! go John!!
We've put up some photos of the Hurling match online (including the originals) here too.

What is this Hurling thing? It looks wicked, especially with the evil looking bats that they play with. Is it an Ireland-only game?

Hey Matt,
Yeah, Hurling is an Irish thing. Apparently its not played anywhere else. Its real big here. Its also regulated so it doesn't become a professional sport, so all the players have full-time jobs & play for leisure. Having said that, they have intra/inter county fixtures leading up to the ALL IRELAND final which totally rocks. Its a different sport compared to what we are used to. You can pickup the ball with your hands, run with it, smack it, kick it etc. The goal looks like RUGBY GOALPOSTS with a net in the rectangle part. Hitting the SLITHER (the ball) into the goal is 3points and over the goal but between the posts is 1point. The field is about the same size as a soccer/rugby pitch.
It's a cool game to watch, and from the looks, even better to play!! I think I'll have to bring back a Hurl (the bat) on my return to home!
