Fun in the Sun (kinda)...

My Away Day
On Friday May 6th, my whole department went on a team building ‘away day’. This constituted of all of us travelling up North to a little town called Carlingford and taking part in all sorts of land based activities with dinner and drinks afterwards and a night in the new hotel that has opened up there.
Carlingford is about an hour and a half North of Dublin so, as to avoid the morning traffic on the Friday morning, a bunch of us (about 15 people) decided to go up the previous night.

As you can imagine, we had great fun! For the activities we were all divided into four teams of either 8 or 9 people and competed for ‘gems’ for each task that we did. The tasks ranged from archery to low ropes and problem-solving tasks to climbing three-storey high poles.
My team did very well and I was feeling very good about the whole thing until we reached the three-storey high pole. Those that know me know that I am quite scared of heights so just looking at the pole was enough to freak me out! However, in order to get the gem, our entire team must climb the pole (it has wooden bits sticking out to make it easier), climb onto a platform at the top of the pole (about a foot and a half square in size), stand on the platform (with nothing to hold you up or balance you), and leap from the platform to grab onto a trapeze about two metres away before being lowered down. Of course you are harnessed up and connected to a rope which the instructor controlled so you are perfectly safe but do you think that my mind would believe that!?! No. I ended up up the top of the pole for about five minutes having quite a freak-out! I was too scared to get onto the platform and too scared to let go of the pole so that the instructor could lower me down! However, I did finally let go and allow myself to be lowered down eventually, saw the funny side of it afterwards, and the rest of the day went fantastically.
The nights were even better! 5am to bed both nights and lots of drinking. There is nothing like drinking with your work mates to bond and we all certainly had a great laugh both nights! The best part was that the entire two nights and day were paid for by the company! Yay!

Dublin in the Springtime
Well, the weather has just been getting better and better recently and I have discovered how gorgeous Dublin is in the Spring! The parks are very well looked after and the flowers are in full bloom. The Cherry Blossom trees have been shedding their pretty pink flowers and the whole effect is stunning! I am lucky enough to walk through two parks (Merrion Square and St. Stephen's Green) on my 20 minute walk to work every morning and back in the evening so have had a good chance to appreciate the beauty of Dublin in the Springtime. The nights are also getting a lot longer so now the sun doesn’t set until about 9.30pmish! You think that’s late? Just wait until the Summer! The sun usually doesn’t go to bed until about 11pm then!

Dun Laoghaire
Last Saturday was a stunning day in Dublin so Johnny and I decided to catch the train down to Dun Laoghaire (pronounced Dun Leery) for a walk along the sea-front. Dun Laoghaire is only about 20 mins by train out of Dublin city and is a lovely port town. It has a lot of very scenic walks alongside the coast which Johnny and I took advantage of for a good hour and a half before visiting my Mum’s cousin Clare who lives with her family out there. We popped in for a quick visit and ended up spending a very pleasant couple of hours chatting with Clare and her husband Eugene.
