Rain & clouds... where's my summer? oh!

Our friends Steve & Rachel arrived on Wednesday night!! It always good to see ol' friends over this way. Thursday and Friday were, unfortunately, cold rainy days - which is rare in Dublin :-). Fortunately though, what Dublin is fantastic for is not weather dependent so we went straight out to introduce our visitors to a great ol' pint of Guiness. We didn't get to see them that much so far as they left on Saturday on a 4 day bus tour around Ireland.

Nevermind, they'll be back tomorrow. In the meantime, Bex & myself took advantage of the long weekend and spend it down to West Cork (Dunnycove) stopping by the Rock of Cashel on the way. The Rock of Cashel, well, more like the CASTLE of Cashel was last used in the 14th century & was ruled by a number of bishops & monks. It bares an impressive view from below and from the castle you are treated to a 360degree sight of the area.

Afterwards, we made our way out to Dunnycove which is just south west of Clonakilty in West Cork. Rebecca's mothers family have a couple of mobile homes out there, and its out there most of the summer is spent. That night we walked up the road to Ardfield where the Annual Fishing Contest was held. During the day boats go out and race to catch as many fish as they can and at night all the fish caught are cooked and served to everyone for free - I like!!. Ah! Mackeral is ab fab delicious!!

Sunday was Rebecca's birthday and she got lots of presents and even great weather from above. We went for a climb in Lough Hyne in Skibbereen up to the summit. The view from up there was just stunning (see pics). Later that night our neighbouring mobile home celebrated their Official Deck Opening. The whole campsite came together for a BBQ, followed by some of that good ol' Irish sing song - this to me is soooo the real Irish experience & I just love it!!!
