Our summer holiday in Greece

Athens
Our first stop was Athens where the slogan is "May all your myths come true". Once you get there, finding your way into town couldn't be easier. €5 and a train takes you straight to the centre of town. Whats with all the cats and dogs!! There are sooo many of them around its crazy!

Acropolis
Tip: Go to the Acropolis first. The entry is €12 & you can get into other sights ie. Temple of Zeus with it too.
Acropolis sits on a hill from which the massive stretch of buildings in Athens can be seen. Apart from the view, the main attraction is the ancient ruins of the Acropolis. You can just imagine being the almighty ruler back then... ah, only photos can describe what its like...

Plaka
We've been told its the buzzing part of town. The winding semi-pedestrianised streets guide you pass a plethora of shops & restaurants. You can sit down and taste Gyros (which are Kebabs only wrapped in Pita) while sipping (or sculling) the local brew Mythos/Alfa - Alfa is better.

Temple of Zeus
Its yet another ancient ruins of what used to be an impressive temple. There are only a few columns left. You'll need to let your imagination go and be impressed. It still amazes me as to how they built structures like it with no cranes.

Greek Islands
According to the Lonely Planet book & guides in Athens. Contrary to lots of sources, ferry prices are fixed by government and is the same everywhere. Our fast ferry to Santorini cost €46 and took about 5 hours & was 1.5 hours late.

Santorini
We spent 4 days here & its absolutely beautiful. Make sure you check out our photos. The dramatic landscape left from the volcano eruption/explosion, the picturesque sunset in Oia, the trademark blue domed churches all on an island filled with holiday makers who are all there to enjoy life. If you go, be sure to have your drivers license and hire a quad-bike/scooter/car. We hired a quad-bike for €35 for 2 days (we've since met a couple that got it for €30) and cruised all around the island. Santorini is relatively small, you can go from tip to bottom on the quad-bike (40km/hr tops) in about 1hr. Some of the sights we soaked in included the Kamari Beach, Red Beach, Oia (from which we enjoyed the famous sunset with our favourite Bubble Makers Sam & Roanne). Absolutely sublime!! Definitely highly recommended!!

Naxos
A whole lot bigger island than Santorini. And after having been to Santorini, Naxos kinda pales in comparison. However, unlike Santorini which is volcanic, Naxos have white sand beaches!! It is also much cheaper (€20/night for accomodation compared to €40/night on Santorini). We spent the 4 days there relaxing & doing a bit of sitting by the beach sipping our cocktails :-) We also went on a 1-day bus tour of the island which was quite interesting & a good way to do it. Naxos is a lot bigger so its a little harder to get around on a quad-bike. The bus tour took us around to the major touristy sights and the guide gave us a good idea of the background as well.

All in all, the Greek Islands, especially Santorini was exactly how we pictured! Absolutely beautiful!! Clear blue waters, picturesque sceneries ... we loved it!!
