Electric Picnic
Ireland has had a good run of music festivals lately, concerts in Marley Park, Oxygen, Hi-Fi festival etc. And last week we partied on down to the Electric Picnic in Co. Laois for some camping musical fun!!
This is the 3rd year running now & big names like Groove Armada, Massive Attack, New Order, Pet shop boys, Basement Jaxx etc turn up to up the festivities. The festival runs from Friday until Sunday midnight but we, being well travelled (ie. no annual leave left), left after work on Friday to join the fun :-)
Apart from the music, there are also lots of tents where you can get Massages, fancy dresses (a shop called 'Away with the fairies') or even get married in the Inflatable Church!! We were surprised to find the schedule all booked out (not that we were planning on anything of course te hehe). Apparently its not a real marriage and only lasts a day ... so they tell the guys.
Although we had brough food with us, trying to be good with our money, the food there was too enticing for us to refuse. They had Paella's (Spanish dish), Bradwursts (German sausages), Pasta / Pizza, Chinese, Thai, Crepes etc. Yum yum yum!!
They had this tent called 'Silent Disco'. Its really weird. There were 2 DJs on stage each doing their own thing & everyone wears headphones so you can choose who you want to dance to. Standing there watching them was quite surreal as you can't hear the music but they are all dancing away, some to different beats etc... strange!
The best show for me I have to say was Pet Shop Boys. Having not heard their music nor seen them in concert before, I thought their show was pretty cool!! They had fancy lights and dancers and everything!! ok, the music was a little teenage but hey! it was good entertainment!!
Something else I was really amazed at was the fashion in people's gumboots (or Wellies - Wellington Boots as they call it here). I'm used to the good old plain coloured ones in NZ but over here you can floral ones & fancy pattern ones too!! Almost every girl had a different style! Oh! and their tents were pretty cool too!! some people had floral tents, tents with dots & patterns, we even saw one with cows on it!!
Crazy!!
