Blue Moon...

I was lucky enough to be one of the six people in my office to be given tickets to the Manchester City vs. Manchester United Soccer game that weekend so while Ali & Si took the guys to Chatsworth House gardens I met five guys from my department and headed on over to the Manchester City Stadium. The game was great! The atmosphere was amazing - the crowd had all been supplied with blue and white (City's colours) scarves so they were being waved around like mad whilst screaming chants and City's theme song 'Blue Moon'. At these type of matches the fans tend to be incredibly passionate about their team and therefore only 2000 tickets are sold to the visiting team's fans and their section it cordoned off by a line of security guards! It is interesting to see and the amount of security is amazing! I swear the United fans made more noise than the rest of the stadium though!

Although I didn't support either team, I sympathised with my workmate Graham who is an avid United fan and kept quiet throughout the game. Keeping quiet was our only way to show our support for United as we were sitting amongst all the City fans - some of whom were quite abusive towards the United team and therefore we didn't want to get into any trouble! We saw one guy near us jump up and cheer when United scored and the glares he got! Security immediately ran over to tell him to sit down and keep quiet or else he would get in trouble!

United won 1-0 though so it was a happy Graham who hit the town with the rest of us that night! :-)
