Latest Events!
As well as a lot of visitors we have been busy with various events that we thought we'd share with you:
Kieran Walsh's First Holy Communion
On May 19th we headed down to Cork for Kieran Walsh's First Holy Communion. For a very active child he was a little angel all day and we enjoyed catching up with everyone over a meal and a few drinks at the Vienna Wood's Hotel in Glanmire afterwards. We also took the opportunity to catch up with family in Cork - visiting the McAuliffe's and my grandparents.
Dee Nix's Fundraising Gig
Our friend (and my Irish sister), Deirdre Nix, is raising money for the organisation that she is going to Uganda with in July and so organised a gig to help raise money. This coincided with the night Murray was in Dublin so we took him and our friend Craig and we all ended up having a ball! Lots of raffles, good music and lots of drink ensured that we stayed there until late and had a brilliant night!
Bex's Work Away Day
My department was off on our bi-annual Away Day on the 23rd and 24th of May. Driving up North to Co. Cavan, we took part in all sorts of fun activities for the day, ranging from clay pigeon shooting, buggy driving, and laser games. That night we stayed in the very nice Landmark Hotel in scenic Carrick-on-Shannon in Co. Leitrim and partied into the early hours of the morning! The next day was a cruise on the Shannon River, a leisurely lunch, and the drive back down to Dublin just in time to start the weekend! Wahoo! :-)
Flora Women's Mini Marathon - June 4th
Okay at only 10kms long this is a very mini marathon but I ran it! Yes I actually ran! I had trained for this event for a while before and my aim was to complete it in under and hour. Sure enough, on the day I completed the 10kms in 58 minutes and 25 seconds, a personal best and no mean feat when you are having to dodge the thousands of others taking part in the event for the first 3kms or so! I also decided to collect sponsorship for the event to fundraise for the Irish Cancer Society and managed to raise over €500 thanks to a lot of very generous people! My friend Kathy also ran it with me and afterwards we celebrated with a feast of gourmet sausages, salad, and freshly baked afghans and cheese scones, all washed down with some french champagne!
Tag Rugby
I also want to take the chance to mention that I have started to play tag rugby every Thursday night with my department! It is great fun and we were on a great winning streak until last night when we played in the pouring rain and unfortunately lost. However it is loads of fun and I am really enjoying it! :-)
