Two Weeks in Singapore

Although we were very sad to be leaving Ireland, we were also a little excited about the flight to Singapore as we were flying on one of the new A380 airplanes and we had also applied to upgrade to Business Class thanks to the many air-miles Johnny has racked up during his work trips. Unfortunately it turns out that everyone wants to fly Business Class on the A380 so on our arrival in London we were faced with the disappointment that our application was declined and we would have to fly cattle class with the rest of the plebs. :-( Not only that, but our flight was delayed for four hours due to a "technical issue". However, all was not lost as Johnny's Gold Qantas Membership got us into the BA Business Lounge in the terminal so I (Bex) consoled myself by drinking the free champagne they had on offer there while Johnny enjoyed the free Wifi. :-)

Finally we arrived in Singapore and while Johnny spent the next two weeks hard at work, I was able to relax, catch up on some sleep, visit friends living there and do a bit of sight-seeing.

I must admit I spent a lot of time sleeping, going to the gym, lying by the pool and partaking in the wine tastings at the St. Regis hotel we were staying in but when I managed to drag myself outside the hotel I also managed to spend a lot of time with my good friend Emily and her nearly one year old baby Libby. And on the days I was feeling particularly adventurous I took a stroll around the gorgeous Botanical Gardens, checked out the many, many, many shops and malls on Orchard Road and took a fascinating tour around the National Museum of Singapore.

Of course Johnny had evenings and weekends to spend with me so when he was free we managed to do a few things together. We met up with other friends of ours living in Singapore, Jo and Rob, who introduced us to the cool Hawkers Food Markets and yummy Roti Pratha. We took a trip to Sentosa Island where we checked out the 'Images of Singapore' exhibition, went luging, took a trip up the Tiger Tower, strolled along the beach and I pet a snake! We also visited the Bugis Markets and Lau Pa Sat, tasted the Durian fruit for the first time (YUCK!), went for dinner and drinks with some of Johnny's workmates, met up with an old Uni friend of Johnny's, Kung Bing, and sampled just a small amount of all the yummy food that Singapore has to offer.

Two weeks in Singapore was a lovely way to start our new adventure in Asia. There is lots more to do and see but as we have good friends living there and Johnny's work occasionally takes him to Singapore I am sure that we will be back soon!

So it was off to Taiwan to settle in our new home... but more on that coming soon!
